Historical Background The Yiptong family started out in business in 1918 with a small bakery and grocery store in rural Mauritius. The family business registered as a private company in 1947, and by that time, the enterprise had expanded its activities into the retail and wholesale trade in Port Louis, the capital city of Mauritius. During that time it also became a distributor for British American Tobacco.
In 1960, the Yiptong Group created the brand 'Maurigas' which pioneered the use of LPG (liquid petroleum gas) in Mauritius. As proof of its success, 'Maurigas' was bought out in 1987 by a petroleum consortium, comprising of Total and Esso. However, the Yiptong Group has retained the exclusive distributorship of 'Maurigas'.
In 1970, the group ventured into the manufacturing sector and set up a bottle closures factory, becoming the main closures supplier for Coca-cola, Pepsi-Cola and Mauritius Breweries.
Today, with a turnover of over Rs800 million (USD27 m ), and an annual growth rate of 12%, the group is listed among the top 100 companies in Mauritius.
Building a Distribution Network Along the years, the Yiptong Group has established one of the most comprehensive distribution network in the country. With a rigorous and well-structured organisation, its fleet of 25 delivery vehicles covers virtually all trade outlets: supermarkets, corner shops, gas stations. An important segment of its clientele also stems from the food service industry and the manufacturing sector.
A customer-driven team With over 100 employees, led by an experienced and dynamic management team, the Yiptong Group can respond in real time to any and every commercial requirements of its customers and suppliers. Besides its well-established distribution network, its sales representatives continuously monitors developments in the retail and wholesale trade sector.
International References The Yiptong Group represents a large range of products from Europe, Asia and Africa. It imports and distributes well-known brands from prestigious companies such as Tiger Brands Exports, Trost Group International, Lea Hin Co. (Pte) Ltd., Honig Foods, Joh. Vaillant GmbH Co., Nibong Tepal Paper Mills Sdn. Bhd., etc.
